Declutter & Ramadhan: The Essence of Minimalism
Can't let go certain things/people/memories? Doa bulan Ramadhan...
Salam there,
How’s Ramadhan treating you so far? I hope, tips minggu lepas banyak membantu.
Actually ada lagi level advance tentang tips pemakanan bulan Ramadhan. But I prefer to take it slowly. For example, so far I belum makan nasi sepanjang Ramadhan ni. I makan samada quinoa atau barley.
But that’s too advance.
For beginner, try stop makan gula putih dulu. Kuih-muih, air cordial, nescafe 3-in-1, aiskrim, coklat, semua ni masuk kategori gula putih.
Try to avoid.
Brown sugar pun, sumber pekerja kilang, dikatakan ianya gula putih yang disembur warna brown. So I tak berani nak kata how organic brown sugar is, even you beli dekat kedai organic.
Just replace it with coconut sugar.
Bila you stop gula putih, badan you akan rasa lain. Guys especially, kena stop.
Alright, this week, let’s talk about the fundamental of minimalism. You might think it’s weird, ingatkan subscribe to minimalis, belajar tentang cara declutter sofa, tips beli langsir untuk raya etc, but I talked about pemakanan?
What de heck?
Then I talk about keep going, you kena ada system, macam mana nak cari motivasi; apa kaitan dengan minimalism?
Look honey, I’m going to explain it today.
We all have purpose. But the clutter around us, take us away from our purpose.
Contoh gini. Let’s say, you’re supposed to be founder of new phone. (Ok this example is too dramatic, just change to whatever deemed suitable for you)
Let’s give a name to that phone. Ambil nama buah. Apple dah ada, Blackberry dah ada…
Let’s go for durian! Yeah! Like it or not, imagine you’re the founder of Durian Phone…
Physical Clutter
Imagine, you always look for something to buy.
Minggu ni gi Ikea nak cari langsir. Minggu depan nak cari bantal letak kat sofa. Another week nak cari pinggan mangkuk baru.
You pergi shopping, always look for baju baru. Buka Shopee, berkenan pulak lah hai dengan jam di dinding berdetak aaa aaa… Jam lama? Simpan lah letak dalam almari. Nak buang sayang…
With this attitude, our mind is always occupied dengan nak beli apa? What’s the next upgrade?
Rumah pun penuh. Our environment, is just the reflection of our inside.
Kalau luar penuh, maknanya dalam pun penuh.
Bila masa nak fikir tentang your Durian Phone?
Digital Clutter
Now, fuh. Phone. Social media. TikTok.
Plan asal nak scroll kejap je. 5 minit je. Tengok-tengok, setengah jam dah.
And the cycle repeats…
We look for tips, macam mana nak stop scrolling. Or perhaps, we just don’t care. Takde masalah pun scroll social media. Sekali sekala nak relaks gak.
The challenge is, benda kat social media tu, tak helpful pun untuk we grow our Durian Phone.
We have our purpose here, remember?
Siapa yang dapat banyak masa kita; our purpose & our family, or social media?
Mental Clutter
This. Teringat banyak benda lepas = depresssion. Terlalu risau future = anxiety. Risau apa orang fikir tentang kita.
I can’t deny the fact that kita semua manusia diuji.
We lost certain people in our life. Even Rasulullah sedih lepas Siti Khadijah pergi. Nabi Yakub sedih, Yusuf disappear.
Mungkin pernah kena fitnah, pernah kena buang kerja, pernah gaduh dengan orang tu orang ni… at some point, we need to do something about it; Learn to let go.
And sometimes, we worry too much about the future.
I wrote about this in The Quran Notes Newsletter:
Because they’re gonna be negative all the time. They’re gonna be anxious about the future all the time:
What’s gonna happen to my job?
What’s gonna happen with my money?
Where is this/that gonna come from?
What’s gonna happen to the health?
What’s gonna happen to the kids?
What’s gonna happen to this or that or the other?
What if they find out?
What if this happens?
What if this one says this?
What if that one does that?
And you’re just so overwhelmed by these petty things that you forget that Allah controls the future, that Allah owns it; not you, not me.
Heart Clutter
Heart clutter is sin.
I’d better not talk about this, I’m not the right person.
I can only say: istighfar. Ambil peluang Ramadhan ni, untuk istighfar.
Time penat kerja, nak rehat jap, duduk diam-diam istighfar. Letak tangan kat dada.
Jangan gaduh sangat nak habiskan: astaghfillah, astaghfillah, astaghfillah… Ok cukup 50 dah, ada 50 lagi: astaghfillah astaghfillah astaghfillah…
Dude, our istighfar need an istighfar.
In minimalism, quality, is the best quantity.
Ramadhan & Minimalism
So now, I hope you understand kenapa every week I tulis newsletter pasal keep going lah, 10 years overnight success, find a system..
Semua ni adalah untuk bantu you fokus dekat your ‘Durian Phone.’
All these clutters, sometimes rasa susah nak let go kan?
We all have different ujian.
Ada yang susah nak let go langsir lama, ada yang susah nak let go ingatan terhadap certain people or things or memories, ada yang susah nak let go scroll social media, ada yang susah nak let go habit lama.
Whatever it is, we can’t do things on our own.
Hanya Allah boleh tolong.
Ambil peluang Ramadhan ni untuk berdoa, minta tolong, how to let go certain things that have been taking us away from focusing on our life purpose. Your children is also your life purpose (untuk yang ada anak). Your project, anything that you decide to do…
Btw I know Durian Phone is not your purpose, you don’t have a garage remember?
Conclusion
Alright guys, I hope you found something in this newsletter.
